Newsletter as hidden-section

Reported by Priit Tamboom | January 9th, 2009 @ 09:19 AM

I have long thinking where to put newsletter icon.

Currently it's on top position and I think we give to high position to newsletter :-). It's a bit polluting adva top menu and is against adva modularity priciple when you don't need something, you just don't pick it.

My propose: Let's move newsletter to same level as general section, but perhaps also let's create new sub-section class as "hidden" or "not-public" or smth similar. So when you go /sites/1/sections/new, you can pick newsletter like other sections. Perhaps we can group visually it as hidden or not-public section and show it at the bottom of sections list or smth similar.

Moreover, when newsletter is as section, it fits much better if in the future we want to create public interfaces to it, such as rss feed etc.

What do you think to create no-public section type and clean up top menu from newsletter?

Still not sure about this one.

We could also expose this functionality through Components (aka Cells). Not sure if a fullblown section fits the bill, sounds a bit like overkill to me. Then on the other hand it's the way we do it with other engines, too.

Can we push the decision back a bit?

Regarding the link in the main menu: Sure, right now it's hardcoded. At some point we need to make the admin interface much more pluggable anyway, so that engines can register their menu/tab items to whatever menus are there.

I assume the decision has been made?

I'll close this and reopen if needed.
