Adva ui: Sidebar sections and it's more correct place?

Reported by Priit Tamboom | January 9th, 2009 @ 09:05 AM

What do you think if we rethink a bit Sections in sidebar. It's clever idea to show sections all places but is it really usefull to have "reoder sections" in Newsletter for example. Moreover, when I have many sections at site, all other management links goes too far down position.

Perhaps I miss some big picture, just correct me if I do.

I propose we move sections management to /sites/1/sections with same fuctionality and let's take "Section" out from master layout, so each engine can decide if they need it or not.

By the way, "reoder sections" is very nice feature itself and I love it, but don't like current global location for it (at least it does not make sense with Newsletter engine at the moment.

What do you think?

I agree we should remove "reorder sections" from the sidebar somehow.

I also think that we should have a section/index list page just like with other models (articles, wikipages, ...). The reordering stuff needs to work on this page with a table though and I'm not sure that's easy to do with the current js implementation (shouldn't be too hard either though).

Regarding the section list as a navigation element in the sidebar I also agree that it take way to much vertical space on some pages especially when you have some more sections.

So maybe a dropdown menu could solve this?
