Spades - Basic game rules and how to play

Basic Game Rules

Spades is a four-player game that employs a normal 52-card deck (with the Jokers removed). Each player receives 13 cards once the deck is shuffled and dealt.

The player on the left of the dealer is the first to make a bid. Following the bidding, the same player leads the first trick. Following that, turns rotate clockwise around the table, with each player matching the suit of the first card played. A alternative suit can be played if a player does not have a card that matches the original suit. After all four players have played a card, the trick is won by the highest card of the original suit, and that player is awarded a point.

This process continues for the turn, with the person who won the last trick taking the lead. If the player is unable to follow the initial suit, they may play any other suit they want, including, which cannot be led until it is "broken."

The round ends after all cards have been played, and the scores of each team are calculated (described below). The goal for the squad is to win at least the amount of tricks offered. The ace is the highest card in the deck and is always the trump suit.

Spades online card game is free to play on PC, Desktop, Android, and iOS. The game rules are simple.
